La Halle aux Blés

Future Frac building

An emblematic building registered as a Historic Monument, very recognizable by its square shape, the Halle aux Blés has been part of the urban landscape of Clermont-Ferrand since the 18th century. Originally intended for the storage and trade of wheat, this building then housed the School of Fine Arts for several decades. The heritage dimension of the building, the view offered from its skylight and its location in the heart of the city, made it the ideal place to host the FRAC Auvergne. The project was initiated by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, supported by the Ministry of Culture, the City of Clermont-Ferrand, Clermont-Auvergne Métropole and the Conseil Départemental du Puy-de-Dôme.

This place, abandoned since 1999, will come back to life in the fall of 2023 for the opening of the exhibition Beautés.

The Frac Auvergne podcast

In March 2020, the FRAC Auvergne launched a series of daily podcasts on art, produced by the director of the FRAC Auvergne, Jean-Charles Vergne, and Benoît Bouscarel, editor-in-chief at France Culture. In short formats, Jean-Charles Vergne crosses the most diverse influences of artistic creation to better understand our relationship to works.

“Dirk Braeckman’s photographs are vibrations of tones delicately contained between the absolute blackness of a charcoal powder and the radiant whiteness of lamp flashes, sun rays or the glare of pulsed flashes. From the most opaque blacks to the most strident whites, the granularity of the light neutralized by the gray or by the twilight extinction of the color makes the details of the world rest on a surface of a total matity.
