"La source, 1983 – 2023, regard sur la collection du Frac des Pays de la Loire" proposes a sensitive and poetic journey through the Frac’s collection through a double display in Carquefou and Nantes based on a selection of works from recent acquisitions set against historical works from the collection.
The exhibition is constructed as a real or fantasized evocation of the landscape and its elements. With the ocean on one side, the river on the other, the salt on one side and the earth on the other: "Jardin du Sel" (2011) and "La Source de la Loire" (2020), two previously unseen films by experimental filmmaker Rose Lowder, set the tone for each part of this exhibition.
From the birdsong that closes the fifteen minutes of Rose Lowder’s film, we retain a certain attention to the environment common to all the artists present in this double exhibition.
La source thus projects, on the occasion of its fortieth anniversary, the Frac des Pays de la Loire, in a contemplative introspection. This project is embodied in the Frac’s ecosystem, close to water and nature – in phase with the landscapes that serve as its setting, a place of memory and multiple metamorphoses.
